Chiropractic Maintenance Care
the Key to a Healthier Back
Coalville Chiropractor Blog | June 2025
When it comes to back pain, many people wait until symptoms become too bothersome before seeking help. But what if there was a better approach—one that helped you stay ahead of pain and support long-term spinal health?
Recent research suggests that there is.
What Is Maintenance Chiropractic Care?
Maintenance care is a proactive approach to chiropractic treatment. Instead of waiting for pain to return, patients attend regular appointments (typically every month or so) to keep their spine in good working order. Think of it like a service for your car—routine check-ups help prevent bigger issues down the road.
What the Research Says
A major study published in the journal PLOS ONE in 2018 looked at how effective this kind of care really is.
- Researchers followed 328 patients with recurring or persistent low back pain. They split them into two groups:
- One group received maintenance chiropractic care (pre-scheduled visits every 1–3 months).
- The other group received symptom-guided care (they only came in when their pain returned).
- After 12 months, the study found that patients receiving regular maintenance care had significantly fewer days of bothersome low back pain compared to the symptom-guided group.
- ? In simple terms: Those who had scheduled check-ups suffered less frequent and less intense back pain over the long term.
